WINDRUSH GENERATION LEGACY ASSOCIATION
Context
As part of Black History Month, I worked with the Windrush Generation Legacy Association (WGLA) to document and celebrate Black British culture through contemporary creative expression.
The project consisted of two key activations. The first was a dedicated content day for artists who were unable to attend WGLA’s Westfield filming shoot — ensuring their voices, work and presence were still represented within the wider campaign. The second involved event filming at WGLA’s showcase day, capturing live performances, food, music and community moments that brought the celebration to life.
Together, these moments formed a living portrait of Windrush legacy as something active and evolving — expressed not only through history, but through art, creativity and collective joy.
STORYTELLING
The storytelling approach differed across each activation while remaining unified in purpose.
For the WGLA showcase day, the film was guided by narration that reflected on the importance of Black History Month and the necessity of spaces that celebrate Black culture, creativity and community. Alongside this narrative thread, I captured live performances, food, music and audience moments — grounding the message in real, shared experience. The result was a piece that framed the event not only as a celebration, but as a reminder of why such platforms remain vital.
The artist content day served as a wrap-up film for Black History Month and the WGLA exhibition across Westfield sites. The focus was on highlighting the stories and creative perspectives of two exhibiting artists who were unable to attend the Westfield media day. Through this, the film celebrated their work while reinforcing broader themes of visibility, representation and community, ensuring their contributions were meaningfully included within the campaign.
Across both pieces, the storytelling balanced intentional narrative with observational moments, centring cultural pride and creative expression as living extensions of Windrush legacy.
